The Catastrophic Shortage of F*cks
Speaker 1Speaker 1
The last couple episodes we talked about the shock of turning 60 and how I'm learning to navigate just being me as well as the frustration of dealing with menopause brain fog. But today I want to talk about a very specific, very liberating medical phenomenon that no doctor prepares you for. It's not the hot flashes and it's not the joint pain. It's the sudden, catastrophic shortage of fucks left to give.
Emptying the Warehouse at 60
Speaker 1Speaker 1
Seriously, I woke up recently and realized that my warehouse is completely empty. The things that used to keep me up at night, worrying about what people think of me, trying to please everyone, and keeping up appearances, I just can't bring myself to care anymore. At 60, my tolerance for BS has officially hit zero and honestly, it feels like a superpower. So today we are diving into the glorious freedom of the Zero Fucks era of life.
Mountain Ranges vs. Molehills
Speaker 1Speaker 1
Has the switch flipped for you? And if so, what are you finally dropping from your worry lists? For me, it came on very unexpectedly. Don't get me wrong, there are still situations or conversations that make me uncomfortable. But my younger self would have either shut down, kept quiet, or just let it roll off me, or made it into something much bigger than it ever needed to be. I used to have this incredible exhausting power of taking a tiny molehill and turning it into a whole damn mountain range. I replay the awkward comment, I panic over the minor setback, and I build it up until it feels too big to handle.
Learning the Art of Stepping Back
Speaker 1But here's the truth. I have had to learn, and let me be completely honest, I still need to practice. Taking a step back, zooming out on the situation and giving it the exact amount of energy it actually deserves, which most of the time is zero.
The Magic Question: Does This Actually Affect Me?
Speaker 1I often find myself asking, does this affect me in any way? If the answer is no, I just let it go. It's like magic. But if the answer is yes, well that's when things get interesting. If someone challenges who I am or something I believe in and is hurtful, I will speak up, but I will also walk away. I don't need that stress in my life. I've experienced how stress affects your life and your health, both physically and mentally.
Why Saying No is the Ultimate Self-Care
Speaker 1Today, my peace of mind is non-negotiable. It took me turning 60 to realize that saying no to drama isn't selfish, it's self-care. If a situation or a relationship is draining my battery instead of charging it, I'm out. I am finally editing my life, keeping only what brings me joy, comfort, and simplicity. The best part of this warehouse being empty, it left a whole lot of room for me to just breathe.
Weekly Challenge: Clear Your Shelves
Speaker 1So my challenge to you this week is to take a look inside your own warehouse. Are you holding on to things or people or worries that are just taking up valuable space or draining your battery? Maybe it's time to start clearing the shelves. Trust me, the view from the Zero F*cks era is pretty spectacular. Thank you so much for sitting down with me today and grabbing a beverage. Your time means the world to me.
